New Keys Old Keys has 3 songs on it that are all more traditional jazz than my normal song writing. Featuring the Hammond, pianos, a small brass section and some cool jazz guitar, I wanted to show a more traditional jazz side.

Feed Me - Hear the groan of the Hammond in the bass line, and some cool guitar licks enhanced by a small brass section. Drama builds as we go along until we hear some string accompaniment and a time change. Easy listening at its best! Feed me does just that, it feeds me! Enjoy!

Latch Key - I have always enjoyed playing some rhythm on my Hammond and this one lets me go! The title is no reference to Latchy Doley who excels in hammering out a rhythm on his B3, but…it did cross my mind. Love his work! This fun tune really gets going and has some great piano work that was a blast to play. Enhanced by guitar, piano and assorted sax licks it will move you to “latch on” to the key and groove.

Sermonette - Jazz fans of the Hammond and Jimmy Smith are all to familiar with his fabulous rendition of “The Sermon”. After recording this one of my musician friends said, “Hey have you been listening to Jimmy Smith lately?” Of course, I had. Realizing that I may never reach the heights of a Jimmy Smith Hammond piece I salute him with my contribution to smooth jazz with Sermonette. While this piece is a little funky and does get cookin’, it’s a great one to sip a good glass of Port, close your eyes and enjoy! Special thanks to Evan St. Charles for cool drum advice!
